Rockcliffe Remembers

RR flyer

Posters and flyers arrived today advertising our ‘memory gathering’ event in June. Pupils from Rockcliffe will be ready and waiting with audio recorders and lots of questions . . .

Who was George Woods?

Work in progress. We’re designing a schools resource pack about the life of a First World War Royal Engineer from Gateshead – George Wood. The pack describes his journey from his childhood in Bensham through to his life as a soldier. Read an Evening Chronicle article about this project here.

Seaton Burn Memories

Print

For the past few weeks we’ve been working with Seaton Burn Community College, collecting stories and memories from the area. We’ve met some lovely people with amazing stories that describe a very different Seaton Burn to the one we know today.

Look out for our information boards and plaques around Seaton Burn and a website brimming with tales of false teeth, netties and possibly the first ever wine bar in the North East!

If you have any memories of Seaton Burn that you’d like to share please contact Mick or Cathy at info@blackdogne.co.uk

Arts Award

Arts award picWe’re trained Arts Award advisors and as part of our work on the Foghorn Requiem Community Engagement Project 34 of our students also did the Arts Awards qualification.

Yesterday we had the happy tasks of delivering Explore Level certificates to Whitburn Village Primary School and seeing the successful moderation of the Bronze Level students from Whitburn Academy.

Big congratulations to them all!

Rockcliffe Heritage Project

This is the cover and first diary page of the Rockcliffe First School logbook for 1906-1910. We’ve just started a Heritage Lottery Fund project to digitise this book and other material which describe life in the school and community over the past 100 years. We’ll be creating an online resource for the school using their archive and memories from ex-pupils, teachers, and the community.
